XBS Mapper Programme

The map is maintained by the people who travel it

XBS mappers report road changes, add places and clarify entrances, opening hours and contacts. Every edit is reviewed before it becomes part of the map and navigation.

The XBS map today

These counters come from the live geographic database. Mappers add the details that can only be verified on the ground.

10countries in the geographic directory
359first-level regions
7 692districts and counties
2 778 960objects on the map
Mapper work begins where a directory is not enough: a new entrance, a changed road, a closed place or an incomplete card.
Contacts and opening hours are complete on roughly one card in 501. The remaining cards still need on-the-ground verification.
Data recalculated on 2026-10-02.

How mappers improve the map

Every task starts with something a person has seen on the ground.

Adds a place

A cafe, a workshop, a beach entrance, a pharmacy. Anything the map does not have yet.

Fixes the card

Hours, phone, address, website. A place moved, and the edit ships the day it is reviewed.

Marks what closed

Businesses close quietly. A "this place is gone" report takes the point off the map.

Shoots and writes

A photo and a review decide for the next person whether to drive there.

How XBS protects data quality

The submission history is preserved. Mappers can always see what happened to an edit.

1Submitted

The edit appears in the mapper account immediately.

2Reviewed

The team checks the content, photograph and object history.

3Published

An approved edit enters the map. A declined edit comes with a reason.

Your contribution stays visible

The mapper account brings together accepted edits, decisions, points and participation level.

  • Your edit reaches the app after review and is visible to everyone driving past.
  • Points for every submission, credited straight away.
  • A decision on every submission: accepted, or rejected with a reason written in words.
  • Your name stays on the card of the place you created.
  • Access to reviewing other people’s edits comes by application: that is the ambassador status.

Points and recognition

Points reflect participation and help unlock further programme levels.

XBS points are an internal measure of contribution, not money. Points are credited for the first ten place and edit submissions per day. Points for a declined submission are removed.

Programme roles

Contribution level and trusted role are measured separately.

01

Mapper

Anyone signed in to XBS. Edits go through review.

02

Ambassador

By application. Reviews other people’s edits and sees the portal queue.

Points and step are counted separately: points for contribution, step for trust.

Data contribution rules

These rules protect the map from accidental errors and manipulation.

  • You are 18 or older.
  • You write about what you saw yourself.
  • You do not copy other maps and directories: we work with open data and our own observations.
  • Gaming the system takes the points back and closes the access.

Choose your next step

Regular mappers do not need a separate application. Sign in to XBS and submit edits from the map. An application is required only for the ambassador role.
